2014 - the year of moves

I bought my house and moved in April/May.
I moved jobs in April.
The Fox's house is on the market so, hopefully, we will be moving soon.
My parents have just sold their house and will be moving in July.
The house my parents bought has stuff in it and will also need to be moved in July.
My parents business will need to be moved at some point this year...

If you haven't figured out the theme of 2014, let me clear it up for you. MOVING!

Our family has been blessed beyond belief the last few months and we are so happy for it. My parents had a bit of a rough patch in 2013, but have pulled through with flying colors (or at least it looks that way) and are moving on to better and brighter things!

For those not following me on FB, I've been a posting like a mad woman. Because my parents are moving on, they have LOTS of furniture items and other wonderful things to sell. Because of my mom's habit of collecting (some call it hoarding, but it's not THAT bad...), we are on a mission to clear out.

In need of any of this???

There are LOTS ands LOTS of things at casa de Thomas. Did I mention they are also liquidating an antique business?

The good thing about all this? My sister and I are getting 1st dibs on things :). Like...

It's like Christmas! :). I can't wait to add all my mom's pretty things to my house. Next on the pick-up list? A 4-poster bed, a cabinet and some other misc. items. My plan?

Create a guest retreat with this color scheme:

I love the peach/navy/gold combo... Not sure I'll go as bold as navy on the walls, but who knows. Maybe on the side tables, at least. We'll see.

In the meantime, it's time to find my new pretties new homes!

Happy Sunday, all!

I feel like the download bar is loading...slowly...on dial-up

It's been almost 2 months since I signed on the dotted line for my little foursquare home, and I'm inching, very slowly, towards the finish line of home settlement.

The bathroom leak threw us off course a bit, but despite it's unexpected arrival, we've been able turn a blind eye and focus on the rooms without holes in the ceiling/wall (said holes have since been patched and are waiting on a good sanding/painting by yours truly).

Like many decorators, I have this dream that my house will look like it's staged for a magazine at all hours of the day. However, like reasonable decorators, I am of a sane mind to understand that, that isn't a possibility. I guess I could walk around, driving myself crazy, worrying over every little thing not in its place or fretting over every dust bunny I find, but I want to LIVE in my house. I have no interest in tip toeing around like my house is holding me hostage. No mam.

I CAN'T be that way... have you seen the things I buy? Where I shop? Yard sales, thrift stores, the side of the road. I take no prisoners if there is some awesome something thrown high on top of a trash pile on the side of the road. I don't have room in my car? No worries, I'll find room. Where there is a will, there is a way...and sometimes you're just given things that you can't pass up...

What? I'm thinking Halloween. I hear it's big where I live...

I digress.

Although things aren't 100% where I want them to be, I can sit back and reflect on what I have accomplished and look forward to the things I have left to do. So, without further ado, I give you my (semi) finished rooms!

1. The Master Bedroom (which I believe everyone has seen & my favorite room so far)

2. The Living Room

3. The Kitchen

4. The "Library" (which isn't complete yet. we are waiting on the fox's furniture...)

After:

5. The Water Closet

And that's it!

The rooms that aren't ready for their close up?
  • Office
  • Dining Room
  • Guest Bedroom
  • Master Bath (also guest bath)
  • Library
  • Entry
Not sure when those will be completed, but I'm learning to be patient. In due time I suppose. It may be next year! Maybe I need to set a date for a housewarming party???

Happy Hump Day, all!

a master plan

Ha! I wish I had a master plan. This moving into a new house business is tough stuff! Those well laid plans I thought I had? Psh! G.O.N.E.

Let's go through the journey, shall we :)

1. Had a almost 3 hour closing. But finally...

"Cheers!"

2. Move in day...

"Whew!"

3. Then a leak.

"Seriously!?"

4. But finally, came the decorating....well, some of it anyway.

And then, the master after. Ahhh.

There is still lots to do, but I'm hopefully we can get it all done this Summer (I believe I told my realtor I would have a housewarming party in May??? Yeah right.)

But we are getting there. And in the meantime. Did I tell you we are selling The Fox's house?
